Summer School has finished and Term 1 is about to start.
A huge vote of thanks must go to all the organisers, presenters and audience participants for what was a very successful series.

We mourn the passing of Barry Munari, leader of our cycling group and co-Tutor of one of our Current Affairs classes. Barry joined U3A Hawthorn in 2001 and was always a willing participant - assisting in a number of roles, including working in the Office, undertaking database work and helping out in the move from Swinburne to Sinclair Avenue.

Members of the cycling group have sought to have the group renamed the Munari Cycling Group in memory of him. Barry will be sorely missed.
Thanks to the work of our Archivist, Vida Jarasius, and a group of volunteers [particularly from Michael Mullerworth's Current Affairs class], the archival material which was indundated with water in January has been thoroughly dried and returned to our Archive Filing Cabinets. We thank you, one and all.

Amongst the gems is the Hawthorn Campus Notes series, issue 1 of which is from June 1985. A start has been made on digitising them and the first 12 issues are now on the website; see the Newsletters page. The process involves scanning, enhancing [including erasing images of staples, binder holes and blemishes] and saving in the PDF format.

The Committee has spent considerable time in 2010 preparing a 3 year Strategic Plan. We were greatly assisted in this processs by our facilitator, David Brownell, whose wide experience includes with the Boston Consulting Group, where he was Vice President and Director of the Melbourne Office, and in subsequent consulting roles, for major business clients, where he has led strategy reviews and senior leadership team development.
The culmination of this work is a plan which will enable the Committee to guide U3A Hawthorn's growth and development. A summary document is available listing the key goals and principles of the Plan. You can download the document here.
